JOEL ELLIS
THE FUNCTION OF THE STUDIO (WHEN THE STUDIO IS A LAPTOP)
MULTIMEDIA AND INSTALLATION ART

I am a music/video producer, and I grew up in an age where everything was manual, from the production, where you needed real musician to play in the studio to record your music, and when you needed to edit a video you had to physically splice the tape and tape it back together. So I have seen the evolution over the years, from then to now (the laptop studio), and I welcome the change, because now I can do so much more and don’t have to depend on others in order to complete my works.
The biggest difference between the laptop studio and the physical is the Internet. The platform for sharing and collaborating is overwhelming. Art that do not, or is not designed for a physical gallery, can use the Internet for its personal gallery.  Although the laptop studio has eliminated jobs such as, musicians, editors, and actors (in some cases), the laptop studio has also created jobs for those who are not musicians, editors, and actors, by allowing them to create through the related software.

The Artist “Pierre Huyghe”

The Artist “Pierre Huyghe”
MULTIMEDIA AND INSTALLATION ART

I choose to write about Pierre Huyghe because he loves life, and this is evident in his works of art, by including living creatures such as human beings, plants, animals and insects, and studies the way the act towards one another and the way they behave towards one another.
I love how Pierre Huyghe, thins the line between what’s real and what’s not, and how he’s not afraid to cross the boundaries and experiment with new and contemporary ideas.  Pierre Huyghe installations are not mealy objects to look at and discard, there’s meanings behind all of his work, weather its psychological, adventurous or for pleasure.

“Pierre Huyghe was born in 1962 in Paris, France. He attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (1982–85). Employing folly, leisure, adventure, and celebration in creating art, Huyghe’s films, installations, and public events range from a small-town parade to a puppet theater, from a model amusement park to an expedition to Antarctica”. © 2018 Art21

Project 1 Update

Concerning my project update, I have decided to not use letters to project upon; instead I will be using shoeboxes. Also instead of using sound I think I will, edit the text in Adobe Animate or After Effects, giving the feeling that the text are coming out of the persons mouth.
I am still learning the software, MadMapper, I have never used it before, but I am trying my best.

I will be needing:
6 boxes, each a different size.
A projector
Mac computer
The software Madmapper

Installation Art By Claire Bishop
Chapter 2
MULTIMEDIA AND INSTALLATION ART
FMX 463-T • FALL 2018

I did not know that Installation Art could consist of lights sound and people, to participate, also that devices developed to include human participation, where object and subject come together.  Installation Art could be as simple as several sculptures or as complex as Carsten Holler's "Lichtwand (Light Wall)". I learnt that there were many different types of Installation Art such as "Minimalism" and "Light Space". I like how the perspective view from the onlooker was shifted from the single object to the relationship between each object.
I learnt that Installation Art could be a wide variety of things, from garbage to sculptures, to light and sound and also an empty space like Asher's 1970 Installation at Pomona College, California, almost anything in the world could be used to create Installation Art, including Live Installation, where the audience are encouraged to interact with the art. As I read along, I love how the transformation of Installation Art, evolved over the years, and is still evolving.

PROJECT 1 PROPOSAL
       MULTIMEDIA AND INSTALLATION ART

I propose to create a project to depict people saying one thing, but do they mean something else? The name of my Project is,” Really”. I will start out with a person looking all-serious, and then all of a sudden they will say, “I Love You” , but soon after they burst out laughing, and now the person being spoken too dose not know if they REALLY meant it when they said, “I Love You”.
Why I choose this? Well, I feel that as the world seems to be getting smaller, by the way of advancing technology, and people are becoming less motivated to go out of their comfort zone and socialize, and the less time you spend away from people and more time in front of your electronic device, I feel you are losing some of your humanity and if this happens you will also lose some of your ability to say, “I Love You” and truly mean it.

        My timeline: 9/718 videos done
                            9/14/18 test project
                            9/21/18 project due
I will be needing
6 boxes, each a different size.
A projector
Mac computer

Installation Art By Claire Bishop
MULTIMEDIA AND INSTALLATION ART

This is my first time in my life that I am knowingly experiencing Installation Art and studying it. AS I read the article,, I was intrigue  “Installation Art” by Claire Bishop, I was intrigued by the many different facets of Installation Artthat are in the world, and how the artist can manipulate the art to portray a message to its viewer, weather its political, war, pieces just for conversation, fun, or what ever the artist wants to portray, it can be done through Installation Art.
I love the freedom that the artist has when creating Installation Art. There are no rules, it seems, and you can use anything and display your art anywhere. On the flip side, I am not connecting to some of the artwork. Maybe I don’t know what went on in the artist mind when it was created, but some of the images literally look like pieces junk placed together. In my opinion, just like technology has progressed, I would like to see Installation Art progress, and have the artist create a piece, or pieces, that a more modern society can relate too.
I learnt the difference between a framed art piece that’s hanging on the wall and Installation Art. Installation Art, I believe, is more complex in creating and understanding, and is also harder to sell than a frames piece of art.

    Joel Ellis
       Bio

My name is Joel Robert Ellis. I believe in God, this was, and is, the most meaningful thing in my life. I am a professional Disc Jockey and have seen the technology, of my craft, evolve over the years. I have witness DJing go from cassette tape, to vinyl records, to CDs, to Mp3 (and other digital formats), and now to actually mixing videos, instead of mixing just audio by itself. Long before mixing videos came out, I had that idea and I felt that it was the greatest idea in the world, and I wish I had the funding and knowledge, back then, to bring my idea into reality.
I am inspired by Life itself, and my life ambition is to inspire others to follow the right path by doing right, and at the end of their life’s journey, they will have no, or very few, regrets. When I am in the presence of superior intelligence, I am more apt to listen than to speak, and when I am in the presence of stupidity, I humbly walk away, because I believe it is best to please a fool than vex him/her.
I love being creative, creating music, videos or digital art. I love the process/journey of getting to the final product, because I believe that if you love the process/journey, the out come will reflect the love you put into the process/journey. Although learning new things can be challenging at times, I love learning new things.
