Project 2 Progress 3rd Posting

This version of my Project 2 is a Jump-Scare version. I watched it several times to see if I was pleased with it, I liked it but did not Love it, I knew I could do better, so I went back into the lab and went to work....AGAIN.

Project 2 Progress

This has been an exciting project, even tho it has been a lot of work to complete. The first shoot was very had and complicated. When I was done with the first shoot, I was not happy with it, so rather than being lazy and frustrated, I checked out the projector and the projector screen, again, and went to work.

Joel Ellis
CH. 3 Claire Bishop's Installation Art

As a nighttime performer, I have always felt and seen the effects of light and sound on people of all walks of life and races. Being from the islands I have experienced almost total darkness, when the light goes out and there are no streetlights, and no back up generator. You would have to feel yourself around the house; feeling with your hands for walls, counters, tables, chairs, various obstacles and inside draws feeling for a candle and a match. This experience is gives you an eerie feeling. I agree with Roger Caillois, when he said,” [dark space] does not spread out before me but touches me directly, envelops me, embraces me, even penetrates me completely, passes through me, so that one could almost say that while the ego is permeable by darkness it is not permeable by light”. http://amper.ped.muni.cz/~jonas/knihy/10_instalace_jako_strategie/Claire%20Bishop,%20Installation%20Art.pdf   (Web.10/6/18)
I do agree with “Lucan”, that mirrors do show the reflections of ourselves not only of out physical self but our inner self as well, and that it can be unpleasant and even disturbing as well, especially looking through the eyes.
I believe in the statement when Barthes says,” Ido not consider cinema to be solely the film itself, but the whole 'cinema-situation': the dark hall, the 'inoccupation of bodies' within it, viewers cocooned in their seats. Unlike television, whose domestic space holds no erotic charge, cinema's urban darkness is anonymous, and exciting”.http://amper.ped.muni.cz/~jonas/knihy/10_instalace_jako_strategie/Claire%20Bishop,%20Installation%20Art.pdf    (Web.10/6/18).
This is what I also look forward to when I go to a Cinema, along with the hot dogs and popcorn.

Pipilotti Rist
“Sip My Ocean”

As I watched “Sip My Ocean”, by Pipilotti Rist, it allowed me to escape into a world where there are no problems, no worries, no crime, no bills, there were absolutely no negativity at all during the time I was engulfed in the art piece, “Sip My Ocean”.
There was no narrative to disturb the conscious or the unconscious. There was actually no need for a narrative, because her works spoke for themselves. I loved all of the interactions, The brilliant colors, the sitting and observing, looking through holes in boxes, standing on top of the art piece as it continue to move, laying on the bed as the art pieces flow on the ceiling and the soothing sounds compliment each other, and your eyes and ears are spiritually connected for that brief period.
Pipilotti Rist was born on June 21, 1962 in Rheintal, Switzerland.
The Artist statement: -
“I likes red beets a lot. My focus is video/audio installations because there is room in them for everything (painting, technology, language, music, movement,
flowing pictures, poetry, commotion, premonitions of death, sex and friendliness) – like in a compact handbag. Her opinion is: Art's task is to contribute to evolution, to encourage the mind, to guarantee a detached view of social changes, to conjure up positive energies, to create sensuousness, to reconcile reason and instinct, to research possibilities, and to destroy clichés and prejudices”.

Chapter 4 "Claire Bishop's Installation Art"

I found Chapter 4 from, “Claire Bishop’s Installation Art” very interesting. I learned that Art can be used as a political weapon, an example given was, “the repression and promotion of abstraction in post-World War II USSR and USA respectively” (© Claire Bishop 2005). I agree with Joseph Beuys, that art should provoke thought and cause a person to re-act and or feel an emotion.
I love, and agree, with the different forms: -

THINKING FORMS- how we mold our thoughts or

SPOKENFORMS-howwe shape our thoughts into words or

SOCIAL SCULPTURE-
how we mold and shape the world in which we live:

SCULPTUREASAN EVOLUTIONARY PROCESS; EVERYONE IS AN ARTIST.

(© Claire Bishop 2005).
I do believe that art is an individual’s way of expressing him or her self, which could lead to self-realization, and I also believe that, like in anything else, what you put into something, will equal what you get out of that same thing, with that understanding, a beautiful piece of art will not only hold physical beauty, but spiritual beauty as well.
I also believe that art is a powerful tool, and if used correctly, it could tackle, or bring to light, some of the more serious “issues such as feminism, education, Latin American right-wing militarism, homelessness and AIDS”,(© Claire Bishop 2005).
I don’t know if I agree with, Bourriaud, about someone having sucking on one of your sweets, is

like them sucking on your body and it’s kind of of sexy. My favorite part of this reading was the

works by Santiago Sierra, about the immigrants and how they were unfairly treated, and how he used

the cardboard boxes, with the immigrants inside, to illustrate that.

"REALLY"

(Project 1)

This Project(2) was exciting to put together and fun. In life you meet a lot of people and you

think you know them, but do you really? Sometimes its hard to tell if someone is telling the truth or

not, even if you have known someone for a long time. Some people can look at you with a straight

face and lie, and they are so convincing, you believe them, but behind your back they are laughing at you.
I wanted to create a piece of Installation Art that would reflect this, and after the first viewing,

the reaction from my piers proved that I did just that.
